Who knew that traveling would be such an adventure? I feel like I have been traveling a week just to get here! Thankfully when Trey and Brandon dropped off me and Kyle at the airport we ran into two other people on our trip (Tara and Eric). The four of us made it to the gate. Ironically one of the girls on the trip with us was my suitemate from when I lived in FHK the summer after my freshmen year with Lindsay.
I told Kyle that I hoped he sat next to the fattest person on the plane. Turns out we ended up having our tickets next to eachother! haha fabulous. I would like to say something about flying British Airways except that I slept the entire way. (well, besides when we ate) I didn't even take my Tylonol PM! I loved their accents and the food was fabulous. (both flights had veggie options!)
We had a Layover in London. Which was amazing. We had a glass of wine and food in the a little pub. Hearing the British accents were really the best part. You would think I would be used to it after living with my British roommate Laura for a year...
The excitement of getting to Europe was so amazing. I am sure that Tara and I were "those typical Americans" who laughed at absolutely everything and were extreemely loud. "Everything is funnier in Europe" (or when you are a bit jet lagged).
We took a bus outside the city (30 minutesish) to the hotel on the college campus. The rooms are actually really nice. much better than I thought... It looks like a little hotel room and is very clean Well, minus the random blood stain on the floor- I dont want to know. I absolutely love my roommate Bailey. I think it was love at first sight. The two of us and Tara and Nina have an instant connection for sure :) We threw our stuff into the room and went to dinner in the hotel that they had for us. The first "course" was a plate filled with meaty pasta. The second "course" was a huge chicken leg and fries. I use "course" lightly because they were EACH huge. We then had gelato. AMAZING. Basically my first dinner in Spain was 4 rolls, fries, and two things of icecream. Very nutritious. Thankfully I brought peanut butter and today we will go to the store and I can pick up some fruit so I can survive.
My friend Tyler has been here for a week already just traveling with friends. Turns out one of them is Robin Rubin (and old old old friend!). I havent seen her in years and yet I see her in Barcelona. Oh, the jewish connection.
We (the four girls, and Tyler and the two Kyles and Eric and Tyler's friends Jake and Laura) went into the city for the first evening. It was very spur of the moment. We have to take a metro and then a bus into the city. Barcelona was fun.. once we found a bar! we walked for blocks trying to figure out where we can go that is a store or hotel. We ended up going to this club called Blue. It played american music but was definitely not something you would see on Northgate! There were blue lights inside and two floors. It was nearly impossible to order a drink with the language barrier. (something I am really NOT used to!) but we had a blast and danced off all possible jet lag.
After getting back to the hotel we had a girls nightcap and planned the next day.. which involved a run only 5 1/2 hours later. Save me.
